Goldfinger (no literally...)

I need to share this amazing ring with you. Be as it may, my life is not very goldfinger-ish at the moment, so I think I have to pass on actually getting it for myself. A mental picture of me passing the jam in my "New Mothers group" – with my goldfinger  - would make me a strong candidate for the 2011 crazy award (and it is only March!).

Anyway, as I mentioned I will be going to Paris tomorrow – I read that the Norwegian king and queen are going to that very same city this week also. Imaging bumping in to them (in the off change that they fly coach). The fact that they  get to wear crowns and HEAVY jewelry on a day-to-day basis inspire a great deal of envy in me, so much so that I’m positively green at the moment just writing about it.
I would silently have a panic attack inside my head while trying to keep a cool exterior and figure out a way to stay normal for the rest of the flight. I’d certainly hope that I had picked a nice outfit instead of my usual plane looks for the event, but let’s face it, I’d probably look like crap. The realization that I hadn’t put any makeup on or bothered to wear clean pants would give me my second panic attack and I would surely have to exit the plane prior to takeoff.
ANYWAY
The pic above is styled by our friend Taylor Tomasi Hill – take a look at the awesome full shoot here:

The people at Lacoste has officially lost their minds

Oh, how I adore silly ads, where do I even start? OK, I think this is what happened:

The people at Lacoste are trying to out-crazy Lady Gaga in order to appear like a high-fashion label - so they placed this cringe-worthy ad in Elle UK.
To make things even more awkward it is launched under the slogan “unconventional chic” – yes ladies, they used the word chic...
I am not sure the Lacoste marketing folks actually live on this planet, and really I’m ok with that. It’s for the best if the universe keeps them away from the rest of us, lest we catch whatever virus it is that makes them think that whats going on on the pictures above is chic…
If you caught the virus and feel like going to the opera in floor length sequins and a polo, please let me know in the comments and I will do my best to talk you out of it!

Want it Wednesday

I recently learned that Parisian designer Alexis Mabille (listed as a favorite among the French party elite – so that explains why I never heard his name before) launched his first ready to wear collection here in February. A fact I would have cared little about, had it not been for the tights you see in the pics below…. Swooon – officially added to my wish list!
It is rare that tights overpower an outfit, but these won’t even give the rest of your clothes the chance to get a word in.

Really, Alexander Wang..!?

All the fashion blogs was buzzing with praise of Alexander Wang’s fall 2011 collection a couple of days back. When looking at the runway photos I could only focus on one thing – THE FUR SUNGLASSES!?

Major hipster points to anyone who can pull these off, but I think I'll pass..

Want it Wednesday

Thankfully the crazy pill I found on my way to the computer yesterday morning is wearing off – so no more rambling about liquid Satan at the likes J
Back to the important stuff – my never ending, ever expanding, always updated wish-list:
I want the entire Spring 2011 Prada shoe collection. I would alphabetize them by color in my shoe closet – starting with A for "Amazing gold, black, orange pump".

Did no one hit on you over the weekend?

Happy Monday! If no one hit on you over the weekend (and you are single and care), it might be that you are too trendy.
The awesome manrepeller show how that can happen. She starts out with one trend – the nude dress (the man-getter) and pile on trends until she is a true manrepeller, so my question to you – did you wear socks and sandals this Saturday?
The man-getter:

…for the man-repeller look just add:

  1. A waist belt
  2. A summer knit
  3. Socks and sandals
  4. A statement necklace
  5. Birth control glasses
..... and voila! A bonafide manrepeller emerges!

Too funny! Thankfully I am happily married so I can repel away!

Runway look for less

I can’t help it – I like nice stuff. I love the unique and inventive design of high end brands – not that I necessarily want the brand on display (LV crowd I'm looking at you), but I like the quality fabrics, the trailed cuts, the colors that don’t wash out and the seam that don’t floss. Not that a high end brand is a guaranty of that – but roll with me here..
Summer knits are all the rage this year – and so is the color red. This Isabel Marant sweater is in other words right on trend – and I really really want it:

Since this is one of the key items of her collection – it might not be easy to get my paws on one though. We all know how the story goes – upon launch it’s gone before you can pull out your credit card. I can’t tell you how many times I put a big black X in my calendar for some amazing item to launch at NetAPorter, just to find that it is sold out before I even rise from my bed, let alone get enough sanity to turn on my computer.
In other words – I need a backup plan in case this happens yet again. By backup is this Mango double ganger from ASOS. At EUR 40 it is too good of a bargain to pass on!

Want it Wednesday

As we near the one-year anniversary of Alexander McQueen’s tragic passing, I’ve been thinking about how much I really loved pretty much everything he ever designed. Seeing this Alexander McQueen Jacquard Dress from new creative director Sarah Burton makes me feel like his inheritance is safe and that we are all going to be OK after all.

The dress is from the spring collection and is unfortunately
 sold out everywhere…

Runway look for less

I really like the leopard/floral combo for spring/summer – such a fun and very fashionable look that works well for both day and night.
Get the high-end version via SAKS (yes, they ship internationally)

.....or the high street version via HM (floral dress) and Zara (leopard bootie)

I would show you my own version of this combo – but 99% of my clothes are on its way in a container across the Atlantic and while I not-so-patiently wait for it to arrive - I will make do with wearing all sorts of amazing couture in my mind and try not to look at any reflective surfaces in the meantime..

Are you ready for the pointy toe pump?

Not that many moons ago the pointy toe was reserved for two kinds of ladies: 1. the fashion editors – the ones sporting the newest and upcoming stuff and 2. the “stuck in the 80ies crowd” –the forty something secretaries - not knowing how ahead of the fashion curve their footwear actually was, and certainly not caring either.
This season it is kind of a mass trend and hard to turn a blind eye too, since almost every designer has a pointy toe somewhere in the mix.

I am reluctant about the trend for one very clear reason: I have big feet. Not huge, mind you, but big enough to not throw too much love after this particular shoe style. I don’t need extra inches on the end of my toes, and anyone who has ever looked down on Paris Hilton’s feet knows exactly why that is not a good look.

Turband

A turband is a nice change from a hat or a headband and is a cool choice for both winter and summer. Check out the awesome blog that is themanrepeller to see how to tie your own!
Have a good weekend y’all - I will be back on the blog Monday

Zara goes Alexander Wang – yet again

It seems Zara got the Alexander Wang SS2010 bug and made this very AW-like t-shirt. I ran down and got one in my local Zara and it is a decent quality and a good fit for the price, no it is not a design classic like the original – but it still works with baggy shorts and ballet flats

Victoria Beckhams new handbag line!

Who would have thought that 90ies star Victoria Beckham stopped wearing fake hair and chaps and became a succesfull fashion designer featured on New York fashion week?  I guess she woke up from just being a footballers wife and decided to free the world of the decease that is flat shoes and plastic handbags.
Her new bag line just released  yesterday to the US NETAPORTER and I like it lot – a little on the pricy side though for a brand that is just establising.

A (brand new) fur conscience

I had it all planned in my heard. When moving to Norway I would buy a really nice fur. A chic grey mink – just long enough to cover my behind. I would wear it with black denim and biker boots – it would be awesome... But then this unpleasant thing happened – I grew a fur conscience, which must truly be a sign of the apocalypse or ragnarok (as we call here in northern Europe), because I really LOVED fur.
Might I add, fur-loving is in my genes, be that an excuse or not. My grandmother was on occasion (every Christmas eve) sporting a big brown mink that made her look like a huge brown bear. This coat would hang in her closet all year – only to be taken out, dusted off and worn for Christmas. On my father’s side, my grandmother had a long silver mink with a giant matching “Russian” hat. I felt great envy as a kid when putting on my good-for-nothing snowsuit while looking at all that fur glory.
But then something changed in a weird way last winter. When out walking the dogs (in my coyote fur vest) I suddenly saw a gross resemblance from the fur vest on my back - to the fur walking at the end of my leash – not a nice thought!

I have to be honest and say that my love for fur never worked well with my semi vegetarian ways (read Skinny bitch – by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin – and chances are you will change your meat-loving ways as well), so a change was welcome!
The final turn around  came when I was out and about in Oslo just this week – I saw this picture and just stopped. This panicked mink with part of its ear bitten off was staring at me from a street poster – and all I could think about was how utterly ridicules and narcissistic fashion can be, so no fur for me!

I will bear the cold in wool and with a good fur conscience!

When even Kate Moss can't pull it off

Admittedly - this is a hard sell, so Longchamp had to pull in the heavy weights (not literally no no) when trying to convince you that buying their fall 2010 patchwork tote is a good idea. Let me tell you - it is not - it is virtually impossible to incorporate into any wardrobe and no one will believe you actually paid well above $400 for that thing..
So even though Kate is trying to make it look like toting a bag like that is the most natural thing in the world, I would beg to differ...

(Don't step on my) Blue suede shoes

I wonder if Elvis would have made some different life choices and lived to a ripe old age, had he known what sea of blue shoes the 2011 Spring runway would have in store for him. And not just blue - cobalt! I have a hard time not loving anything that bold and bright.

I figured to go ahead and kick this trend off straight away - and got myself these blue suede Calvin Klein pumps. I like the pump version of this trend as it makes it a little more wearable for a closet conservative person such as myself.

If you did not know that Elvis was among us blue suede shoe lovers  - THIS IS what you need to familiarize yourself with.

Getting ready for Norway.. Outfit #2 from day to night

Back to the packing and Norway outfit matching. As you know we have 1 day in NYC before going home to Denmark.
In the very unlikely event that my husband wants to go out and have a decent dinner, I need to prepare myself.  Don't get me wrong he is not cheap or none appreciative of good foods. Our definition of good food is just very different, plus he takes no pleasure in sitting thru an (at least) 3 course meal at a place with no TV and/or deep-frier. If the stars and moon cross paths in some very unique axis December 19th - and we do go out somewhere semi fancy, I need both a day and night NYC look .
Below the "going out for dinner" look:

Tibi cashmere fingerless gloves with zipper, grey vintage wool hat (passed down to me from my Grandma), A. Wang mohair/wool sweater, Balenciaga oversized envelope clutch, vintage leather pants, patent Christian Louboutin cork pumps.

Now that was the fun part - now to the part about being able to actually walk (in which Christian Louboutin has very little relevance).
For a day look - I will wear these ancient Tecnica fur boots with my outfit. Like most seasoned fur boots they look like they are in bad need of a blowout or at the very least some lightweight conditioner, but comfort is key right?

Later this week I'll show you a different kind of fur boots - my new none-uggs :)

Lastly, my little man will be getting his urban NY vibe on in:
Gap polarbear beanie, oldschool Quicksilver trackjacket, skinny (but comfy) Gap jeans and miniature blue camo UGGs

Spotted: Serena van der Woodsen's Acne FORCE Cut Out Dress

Bag Serena's style via Topshop for a whole lot less than what she paid (the ACNE dress will set you back $629).
If you want to go to your Christmas party van der Woodsen style - you can bye the style from Topshop HERE:

Technically the Topshop version is a long shirt, so I would pair it with leather leggings, again Topshop has some good options (faux or the real deal), strappy busy heels and a sparkly clutch.

As for the necklace - the actual one from the show is by Gemma Redux. A very similar design from the designer is on sale (30% off) via Shopbop HERE:
I believe there are a lot of highstreet versions floating around out there, who would give a similar look - maybe you would have to pile more than one on though.

I think I remember mentioning on a previous post that my fascination with Gossip Girl is solely based on the fashion right - right!?. Never ones have I let myself get carried away (and had Goosebumps all over) in Chuck and Blair's tortured relationship - that is so wrong, yet so right in an "you had me at Hello" kind of way
Ahhemm, anyway - enjoy your Christmas parties y'all.

xoxo
