Sparkly shoes for New Years

I am not sure who decided it was totally appropriate to dress head to toe in sequins and sparkles for New Year’s eve, but I would like to shake that persons hand. My top pick for sparkly shoes are THESE Miu Miu Oxfords – perfect with a black dress as well as a suit… Looks at those heels!! They look like the sparkly  teeth of a rapper, - perfection!

Getting ready for Norway #4 - at the groomers

Unfortunately for me I was not the one at the receiving end of the grooming today.
Our 2 pugs Yoda and Elmo were in bad need of a holiday makeover, so off to the groomers we went.
They did not seem to take any discomfort in the fact that their groomer was - how to put it - less groomed herself. See I would never get a haircut from a hairdresser with bad hair, but thankfully they are not the ones to care about the little details (or any details for that matter).

Pugs origins from the Chinese aristocracy and a few of the breed members does not realize that their royal, diamond crusted waterbowl, velvet couch laying times are over. We happen to snap up two of those...

So, not a good day for Elmo and Yoda, but after a few leaps around the house - in celebration of how they saw eye to eye with the dragon and lived to tell the tale - they are usually OK...

When even Kate Moss can't pull it off

Admittedly - this is a hard sell, so Longchamp had to pull in the heavy weights (not literally no no) when trying to convince you that buying their fall 2010 patchwork tote is a good idea. Let me tell you - it is not - it is virtually impossible to incorporate into any wardrobe and no one will believe you actually paid well above $400 for that thing..
So even though Kate is trying to make it look like toting a bag like that is the most natural thing in the world, I would beg to differ...

Getting ready for norway #4 - and we are off...in army and gold

This is what I will be wearing on the plane:

Urban outfitters army jacket, Gucci satchel bag, Hermes belt and gren Tory Burch python ballerinas

...and this is William's outfit. I try to show great restraint and not match our outfits TOO often, but a little army theme never hurt anyone...
GAP sweater, Tommy Hilfiger army pants, Nike sneakers

I wish I had this Sofia cashmere travel set from Saks with me - I have stared at it online for months and displayed an unusual amount of self-control by not buying it (even though it have been in my online check-out chart numerous times). Not actually owning it doesn’t keep me from adding it to my travel outfit in my mind though :).

Random fact..

And there you have it...

(Don't step on my) Blue suede shoes

I wonder if Elvis would have made some different life choices and lived to a ripe old age, had he known what sea of blue shoes the 2011 Spring runway would have in store for him. And not just blue - cobalt! I have a hard time not loving anything that bold and bright.

I figured to go ahead and kick this trend off straight away - and got myself these blue suede Calvin Klein pumps. I like the pump version of this trend as it makes it a little more wearable for a closet conservative person such as myself.

If you did not know that Elvis was among us blue suede shoe lovers  - THIS IS what you need to familiarize yourself with.

An odd combination that works

Dead end gene pool..

I think we need to go at least 2 generations back to find a Hilton that actually did something memorable besides trying to capitalize on nearly nonexistent talent.
I happen to like one of the Hiltons though... - no, the other one... The one who occasionally wears items not decked out in rhinestones and pink suede...

You can get Nicky Hilton’s amazing Muubaa shearling jacket HERE. Her bag is Proenza Schouler PS1 - such arm candy...

The super power baby porridge

My son William started his solids this month, so now I need to step up my cooking-game. I bought a really good book (Super Baby Food, by Ruth Yaron) and one of the recipes are a must know. The author claims that her 3 year old toddler is still eating this and that babies who have been fed this stuff almost never gets sick, so I thought it was worth the try and so far - no sickness:

The whole idea is to make sure to ad grains to an often all veggie/fruit diet (baby needs to be 6 months or older to have this porridge). I mix the porridge with fruits in the morning and vegetables afternoon and night.
The great news is that this is really easy to make as well - and this is coming from a person with no cooking skills whatsoever.
Bye some organ brown rice, wash them and but 1/4 cup into your blender/foodprocesser for 2 solid minutes. The noise is awful, but the fine grinding is necessary.
Boil 1 cup of hot water. When the water starts to boil on the stove, turn the heat down and in goes the rice.
Stir frequently with the whisk to prevent burning and to remove lumps.
You can adjust the consistency with water as you see fit.

So easy and so good to keep in the fridge at all times. I use it as a base for all his meals.

In other news, the movers are coming on Thursday! So we are ultra-busy now...Norway here we come..

Getting ready for Norway.. Outfit #2 from day to night

Back to the packing and Norway outfit matching. As you know we have 1 day in NYC before going home to Denmark.
In the very unlikely event that my husband wants to go out and have a decent dinner, I need to prepare myself.  Don't get me wrong he is not cheap or none appreciative of good foods. Our definition of good food is just very different, plus he takes no pleasure in sitting thru an (at least) 3 course meal at a place with no TV and/or deep-frier. If the stars and moon cross paths in some very unique axis December 19th - and we do go out somewhere semi fancy, I need both a day and night NYC look .
Below the "going out for dinner" look:

Tibi cashmere fingerless gloves with zipper, grey vintage wool hat (passed down to me from my Grandma), A. Wang mohair/wool sweater, Balenciaga oversized envelope clutch, vintage leather pants, patent Christian Louboutin cork pumps.

Now that was the fun part - now to the part about being able to actually walk (in which Christian Louboutin has very little relevance).
For a day look - I will wear these ancient Tecnica fur boots with my outfit. Like most seasoned fur boots they look like they are in bad need of a blowout or at the very least some lightweight conditioner, but comfort is key right?

Later this week I'll show you a different kind of fur boots - my new none-uggs :)

Lastly, my little man will be getting his urban NY vibe on in:
Gap polarbear beanie, oldschool Quicksilver trackjacket, skinny (but comfy) Gap jeans and miniature blue camo UGGs

For stinky stuff...

William's new laundry bag is a good fit for small spaces. We have his changing station in the guest bathroom, so a bag hanging from a towel hook works better than a big laundry hamper...

Spotted: Serena van der Woodsen's Acne FORCE Cut Out Dress

Bag Serena's style via Topshop for a whole lot less than what she paid (the ACNE dress will set you back $629).
If you want to go to your Christmas party van der Woodsen style - you can bye the style from Topshop HERE:

Technically the Topshop version is a long shirt, so I would pair it with leather leggings, again Topshop has some good options (faux or the real deal), strappy busy heels and a sparkly clutch.

As for the necklace - the actual one from the show is by Gemma Redux. A very similar design from the designer is on sale (30% off) via Shopbop HERE:
I believe there are a lot of highstreet versions floating around out there, who would give a similar look - maybe you would have to pile more than one on though.

I think I remember mentioning on a previous post that my fascination with Gossip Girl is solely based on the fashion right - right!?. Never ones have I let myself get carried away (and had Goosebumps all over) in Chuck and Blair's tortured relationship - that is so wrong, yet so right in an "you had me at Hello" kind of way
Ahhemm, anyway - enjoy your Christmas parties y'all.

xoxo

Minx nails - a little bit ghetto and a lot of rock n roll

Stylistas who have a major need for primping but very little time to wait for nails to dry and no patience for chipping & smudging–this one’s for you.
Minx nails is all the rage here in the US - seems like everyone loves this low maintenance manicure.
You can bye the nail stickers online - but the style is a whole lot prettier when done by a manicurist. Look for the Minx sign in the window :)

Random fact...

Did you know that Daniel Craigh is to star as Michael Nyqvist in the american movie version of "Girl with the Dragon Tatoo"....  Actually not a  bad choice..

Prada’s Resort 2011 is woven love

Clearly Miami Vice's Sonny Crockett and his woven loafers did not live in vain.
When a major fashion player like Prada dedicates a whole Resort collection to the woven style, you know this is a trend you need to pay attention too. I will start looking for cheaper high street options as per today, as I am officially in love with the Oxfords below.

Happy 3rd Sunday of Advent

Hot Advent coco with all the trimmings...

If you get bored inside in the cold weather, find your inner tickle monster and chase your kids with a pair of fluffy gloves :)

I cheated and got the "tickle monster laughter kit" - but really any fluffy glove will do the trick!

What to pack for Norway? Outfit #1 - Layers

As we are being relocated via my husband's job, we are going to be living in a temporary apartment for 2 months. All our stuff is going to be packed and shipped in a container from the US all the way to Norway. In a nutshell - we can only take a very limited amount of airfreight to last us until the container arrives in February. In other words I have to make some smart packing choices and try to match outfits - so here we go:

I will layer up in T- by A. Wang shirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs football sweater, Diane von Furstenberg vest with fur sleeves, Paige Laurel Canyon jeans (if you have a flat behind like me - these jeans are a good choice), classic Sorel Boots and a suede Chanel tote.

This is not high fashion, but with -20 degrees in Norway - who has the patience for that?

William will be sporting some very tiny UGG boots, a Bon point snowsuit with fur collar and an UGG hat with teddy bear ears :)

Spotted: Serena van der Woodsen's Mia Pezzi Rings

Let it be known that I am a big  Gossip Girl fan! I say that with no shame even though I am 32 and totally over Collage life etc.
The show as such is a one trick pony, the storyline moves around in circles in every single season - but I happen to love that one trick dearly.
I am not even sure why I throw the storyline in to the mix - for me the show is all about the clothes. And the costumers/stylists have that down to an art! Or at least on the main characters- our favorite BFFs Blair and Serena is a continues source of inspiration, Lily and Chuck as well - Vanessa, Jenny, Nate, Dan et all - not so much.
I love how Serena's style in the current season (season 4 I believe we have here in the US) has moved away from all the bootie and cleavage. Seriously, it must have been a joke at the stylist lunch break - who can put her in less possible clothes without having to get a big black block on the screen to cover her private parts. No more of that (or a whole lot less) - much better :)

Below is the awesomeness of the Mia Pezzi Incantato rings - don't bother putting them on your wish list though - they are around USD 7,000 - a piece.  But they make a great inspiration and the look is not similar to anything you will find in the H&M accessory section.
I for one - will be using part of my day in New York looking for something similar - but waaaaay cheaper :)
A feminine chunky ring - who would have known!

Bye bye La Mer....

I have been a loyal La Mer slave for a couple of years. I can honestly say I have tried A LOT of different moisturizers but La Mer was the only one that did my dry sensitive skin any justice - I thought!!

Never again do I need to feel nausea when paying for my skin care regime - as we all know La Mer does not come cheap! I am happy to say that I have found a BETTER and MUCH cheaper crème - and that it is an all natural one on top of everything else.

The wonder crème has myself and the female side of my family hooked already - when going home to Denmark for Christmas I have to carry a ridicules amount of these products across the Atlantic.

The brand is Earthessentials, you can read about them HERE. I use the A-D-E creamy cleanser, the A/B Hydroxy Acid Night Rejuvenator and the Apricot Intensive night crème for both night and day - and I can honestly say my skin has never looked better - not with La Mer or anything else. These products are voodoo, I don't know what else to say :)

Here in the US you can get them in Wholefoods and PCC - but thanks to the drugstore (http://www.drugstore.com/) you can have them shipped to most European countries. I am not sure I would be moving to Norway had this not been the case :)

Itsy Bitsy Yoga

Today, William and I went to our weekly Itsy bitsy yoga class (yes, the babies do the actual yoga).
Unfortunately this is our last class with the studio as we will be moving in only 10 days!
I am sure we can find a new studio where William can shake his yoga bootie in Norway.
The Itsy Bitsy yoga book is awesome though - lots of good exercises for baby digestion, sleep etc. The book  cover both baby and toddler yoga basics!

The teacher recommended this soft plastic ball for very gentle baby zonetherapy.

They are available in any toy store for nothing I would think... We will try ours tomorrow in the tub!

The hair donut

It got this little piece of foam from Ebay (seach on hair donut - Ebay seller tedhyo ships worldwide ) - $4 and you can make all sorts of amazing up-dos with it.

It is really simple - just make a ponytail, slip the foam ring on to the root of the pony and fasten your hair with pins around it....
Before you know it - you will be looking like this: :)

Early days... I am not kidding..

It is Official - I lost my mind!!

Behold... what you see below is HOMEMADE TOYS! As the crafty (ahemm) person I am I just made these two toys for baby W. They are somewhat green so for a more talented person this would be a good idea! It is taped water bottles filled with scraps (and yes a few Danish flags a well).

He seemed to like them - or has he already learned how to force a smile? :)

MASSIVE CRAVINGS...

We decided to take a day in New York before going home to dear old Copenhagen. This is very convenient for me as I hear these two beauties calling my name all the way from the Stubbs & Wootton store at Madison Ave. :)

Who will be roaming the streets of Oslo wearing this.....

.....well maybe not quite but this jacket from Smythe is on its way in a little brown box..

SMYTHE Military Coat

What do you think?
